As a full-time faculty member at Seattle Girls' School, I designed and implemented a comprehensive health and physical education curriculum. This unique and empowering program is provided to all students in grade 5-8 each year with age-appropriate content focusing on physical health, functional movement, self-awareness, intentional listening, self-advocacy, and sexism. Additionally, in order to provide varied perspectives and experiences, I have cultivated rich collaborations with community partners. My mission as the Adventure + Wellness Coordinator is that students develop comfort and confidence in who they are and what they are capable of (physically, emotionally, etc.), independently, and in relationship to others. They learn the importance of prioritizing their own health and well being, and develop skills to do so. This mission is particularly alive in the sex ed curriculum that I have developed. I approach this program with humor and honesty. I provide both students and parents/guardians with information and support and openly acknowledge the awkwardness. I provide both students and families with tools and opportunities to ask questions and practice communicating with one another throughout the year. In addition to the playful and powerful work I do in the classroom, I also serve as a collaborative, reliable, and innovative colleague. I value positive relationships with those around me and work to maintain and deepen those connections. With patient leadership, thoughtful questions, and active listening, I support the teams I'm a part of and the organization as a whole.
