Harold Brooks’s Expertise As an innovative senior scientist, I offer 20+ years of expertise in enzymology and drug discovery pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. I have led multiple projects and developed and validated biochemical, cellular, and in vivo assays in epigenetics, metabolism, cell cycle, and protein kinase targets, while guiding external collaborations. My special talent is translating chemistry, biochemistry, and biology into math and the reverse; my purpose is facilitating the transition of biochemistry from science to engineering. I hold certification as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and have fostered continuous improvement within in vivo pharmacology using Six Sigma statistical methods and simulations, such as JMP and SAS. Known for my enzymology skills, I have advanced scientific and oncology research through 4 patents and 41 articles published in peer-reviewed journals. My interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills are excellent. A few of my career highlights include: ►Developed assays later used by others to identify abemaciclib, a metastatic breast cancer drug with annual sales of 597M. ►Reduced variability in workload for in vivo pharmacology by leading multiple Six Sigma projects to optimize processes, decreasing cycle times, significantly cutting costs, and resulting in fewer animals used. ►Developed workflow process for multiple oncology discovery projects and created discrete event simulation of in vivo pharmacology process and redesigned workflow. ►Decreased variance by continually monitoring processes using Six Sigma methodology. ►Received 3R Award from Eli Lilly for reducing animal use in pharmacology. ►Appointed to target review committee based on performance to help improve technical success of projects. My Story When one of my seven children was diagnosed with cancer, I became a liver donor. His illness motivated me to perform cancer research and gave me a sense of urgency. I am inspired by my father, a rocket scientist from MIT who helped transition aerospace from art to engineering. From my colleagues, I have learned the power of compassion in the workplace and of humor to improve efficiency. My wife of 28 years has taught me the importance of the emotional message in my words. Outside of work, my special interest is taekwondo. I also enjoy building and programming computers to play games with my family. My Philosophy There is a cause and effect which you can control, but it is limited by our understanding. Survival is the ultimate arbitrator of truth.
