Ian ’s Expertise Ian Cree is a pathologist, now working through his consultancy company, CanTech Ltd, providing advice on pathology and diagnostic technology. He is a visiting scientist to the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences University of Oxford on the WCT evidence mapping project, having recently retired from his previous post as Head of WHO Tumour Classification (WCT) Group and Head of the section of Evidence Synthesis and Classification, at the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France. He is an Honorary Professor of Pathology at the Institute of Ophthalmology, part of University College London. He has previously held posts as the foundation Yvonne Carter Professor of Pathology at Warwick Medical School, Professor of Histopathology at the University of Portsmouth and Director of the Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) programme for the UK National Institute of Health Research Evaluation Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre. Until April 2015 he was a member of the NICE Diagnostics Advisory Committee. He was the first Chair of the Inter-specialty Committee on Molecular Pathology for the Royal College of Pathologists, and subsequently chaired its Research Committee. Trained first in medicine, and then as a general pathologist with a PhD in immunology, Ian's research career has been based on investigating disease mechanisms to improve diagnosis and treatment, particularly for cancer. He has worked on personalised medicine for cancer since the late 1980s, and developed a number of molecular diagnostics methods for cancer diagnosis and management. He started the UK Early Cancer Detection Consortium, and its spin out company, PinPoint Data Science. He has published more than 300 papers, and 11 books.
