Ian Bryant’s Expertise For nearly 2 decades my role has been as a peripatetic Principal Subject Matter Expert (SME), often seconded to various elements of HM Government, the UK Wider Public Sector (WPS), or Academia, to either augment their existing capability, or build new capabilities. Such activities are typically predicated upon the need for my rare, specialised, interdisciplinary, mix of skills and experience (encompassing Technologist, Info-Cyber Protection, and Project/Programme Management (PPM) career anchors), and are often focused on introducing a systems engineering approach to establish a consensus model that can balance the divergent imperatives of reductionism and complexity/emergence. This has included in a variety of organisations (including Cabinet Office, Defence, National Archives, NISCC, Policing, and Universities) and roles (including Incident Response, Lecturing, Policy, Research, Satellite Engineering, and Software/System Verification). My current main activities are: - Branch Chief for Information and Info-Cyber Systems (ICyS) Protection Policy and Oversight, UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) - Adjunct Professor, University of Warwick Cyber Security Centre (CSC) - Principal UK Expert (chairing several committees), British Standards Institution (BSI), working predominantly with ISO/IEC (as UK shadow Chair), but also with CEN/CENELEC (as Head of Delegation to JTC13) - Secretary, Advisory Committee on Trustworthy Systems (ACTS) You may also encounter me as an invited speaker at a variety of conferences in both the UK and internationally, or in academia as Adjunct Faculty / Guest Lecturer.
