After graduating from high school, I decided to study law at the University of Havana. I worked as a legal advisor for some years in different national institutions. Due to the lack of opportunities in my country, the family immigrated to the United States in November 2008. With little command of English and an aspiration to be financially independent, I saw the opportunity to become a nurse. I enrolled in Miami Dade to complete my English education and the college credits necessary to enter Miami Dade's competitive nursing program. Why Miami Dade College? This institution has a good reputation in the state of Florida and is less expensive than other private universities and institutions. I graduated with honors as an Associate in Nursing at Miami Dade Medical Campus “Benjamin Leon” in December 2017. Without realizing it, being a nurse has become the air I breathe, the way I explain the world around me. Nursing is a way of life, it is a way of thinking and solving problems. I found a position as a registered nurse at Mount Sinai Medical Center. I work in a Step-down surgical unit and do cross training in ICU surgical and neurological units from time to time. My priority as a nurse is to improve the lives and health of my clients through health promotion and education. I have been recognized for my work performance, recently I was promoted to a Level II Nurse. My education will never stop. Next spring I will complete the Bachelor of Science in Nursing. My goal is to become a surgical nurse. When I'm not at work, I'm at home getting some sleep, Ha! No, seriously, I enjoy being the mother of a talented teenage student and part-time homemaker. I really like traveling, going to the beach, dancing and gardening. I am not a very religious or political person. I believe that everyone has the power to build their own life and change their future. I don't follow any group, but I listen to others and learn from others.
