  Hi! My name is Jake Dingwall and I’m a masters student at the University of Victoria in the Bates lab. I study anthropogenic and environmental drivers of herring spawning habitat loss. I have experience in fieldwork throughout British Columbia, working in fisheries and exploration geology. In particular, I have experience with navigating remote field sites, collecting biological, water, rock and soil samples, as well as on-site mapping. Through my education, I gained experience working with and preparing chemical standards, analyzing field samples under a microscope, and data processing in R, FME, GIS, and Excel. In addition, I am in the process of publishing my honours thesis describing the environmental and anthropogenic drivers of underwater noise in the Arctic Ocean. My interests lie in investigating the consequences of anthropogenic impacts on local salmonid and other key fish species, ultimately providing evidence for scientifically backed policy.
