Dr. James Moon received his BS degree in Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley in 2002 and completed his Ph.D. in Bioengineering at Rice University in 2008. His doctoral work under the guidance of Professor Jennifer West was on the development of synthetic biomimetic hydrogels for cardiovascular tissue engineering applications. His graduate works were recognized with the Mary F.D. Morse Graduate Fellowship Award and Graduate Student Award from North American Vascular Biology. After his Ph.D., he joined the laboratory of Professor Darrell Irvine (HHMI) in the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he developed nanoparticulate vaccines against malaria and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
