James Taylor’s Expertise Growing up, weekends were spent at local racetracks where my dad and other family members were involved in running events. Naturally, I tagged along, filling my days working in and around the cars in the pits. This love of cars led to studying Mechanical Engineering and a career at General Motors as a Development Engineer. This role allowed me to travel the world, engineering, developing, and testing some of General Motors’ highest performance vehicles from design through to production. My early career at General Motors fuelled a passion for challenging the status quo, solving complex problems, and instilled a sense of continuous improvement. It also taught the value of synthesising technical issues into business drivers that are easily understood across the organisation, making the complex simple. The shift from Automotive to Telecommunications was a natural progression, moving from one large organisation to another and replacing physics problems with business challenges. Completing an Executive MBA broadened my thinking and through various roles, I have excelled in strategic planning and execution, consistently creating and implementing plans that achieve company and operational objectives. I became known for developing and empowering high-performing teams through strong leadership and a positive culture. As a central point accountable for our suppliers’ delivery, I established a new team comprised of specialists across Sourcing, Negotiation, Vendor Management, Sustainability, and Social Procurement. Together, we ensure the delivery of balanced outcomes that are commercially viable, meet organisational needs, and align with our responsible business aspirations. My expertise is often called upon to lead critical negotiations, delivering substantial financial benefits and preventing supply chain disruptions. My leadership style is transformational when leading teams, inspiring and motivating them to exceed their own expectations and achieve collective goals. Individually, I employ a coaching style, providing guidance, mentoring, and constructive feedback to help team members reach their full potential. This dual approach ensures that both the team and its members thrive, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, motorsports, martial arts, and video games. Being a big kid at heart, I love the adventures that raising my two young kids brings. These activities keep me grounded and provide a well-rounded perspective that I bring into my professional life.
