Jamie Jason’s Expertise Some people call me the space cowboy. Okay, that is a lie - that is what they call Steve Miller. On most days, what some people call me would not be appropriate to say in polite company. On rare occasions, some people call me a software engineer. However, if the person that makes my sandwich at Subway can be called a sandwich artist, can I be called a software artist? Can we not all agree that truly beautiful software is as much art as it is engineering? If you have not looked at code written by someone and marveled at its simplicity, elegance, beauty, etc., then you have not been fortunate enough to have witnessed someone who has transcended being a mere programmer. Until such time that software artist becomes an accepted job title, I will acquiesce to being called a software engineer. Now, I may be completely fooling myself, but I would describe myself as a highly-motivated individual who: has a proven track record of delivering software solutions across a wide spectrum of platforms and technologies, including embedded systems, device drivers, middleware, user applications, web services, web client applications, and mobile; has led small teams and mentored junior engineers; is constantly looking to improve current skills as well as acquire new ones; and takes great pride in producing innovative and elegant software solutions for interesting and challenging problems. If I cared about people doing keyword matches on my profile, I might mention programming languages like C/C++, Objective-C, C#, Ruby, Python, JavaScript, and Java and platforms like Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, and Linux. I might even go so far as to use terms like object-oriented design and programming, design patterns, multi-threaded programming, cross-platform programming, embedded software, iOS programming, device drivers, Ruby on Rails, client-server programming, network protocols (TCP/IP, etc.), and web services (SOAP and RESTful). But I won't mention it.
