Jason Wickizer’s Expertise Since 1989 I have been a Firefighter, or Emergency Responder. Between 1997 and 2001 I was also a Safety Technician for an International manufacturing company based out of Korea. I started my career as a Wildland Firefighter, and Police Explorer and have held various jobs including Engine Captain for the USFS, and Assistant Fire Chief for a Volunteer agency in Iowa. During my employment with Shelby County I have assisted in creating a County based medical program, written grants and acquired equipment totaling over 1,000,000. Assisted in developing a State of Iowa recognized specialty team that responds to disasters and safely mitigates tree hazards after an event. Maintained a Board position on a three county Hazardous Materials Team, as well as being one of the Hazardous Material Team leaders. I have also developed a recruiting and retention program that trains, equips, and coordinates dispatching and tracking of firefighters on National Incidents with the assistance of the Iowa DNR Fire Program. In the first year of our program we were able to respond 5 firefighters, and 1 Paramedic to 5 fire incidents, and we also were part of a three state team that responded to Hurricane Sandy (ahead of the storm) to operate a receiving and distribution location responsible for providing food, water, and other Emergency Supplies to Long Island, and Manhattan, NY for 17 days.
