Jim Kent’s Expertise Originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., Jim studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City and has worked in film, television and theater. His first film was, ironically, “From Corleone to Brooklyn”, starring Van Johnson. In South Dakota he has worked on “The Stone Child” (2007), written and directed by Chris Martini, which was shown at 18 film festivals across the country. His last film project was "Dawn of Conviction" (2012) - an independent feature-length Western that also toured the film-festival circuit. Jim also had the opportunity to work as a rehearsal partner for Helen Mirren during the South Dakota filming of "National Treasure: Book of Secrets". His last theater work was as "Carl" in a local production of "Bus Stop". The Emmy and Annie award-winning CBS-TV animated series, "Creature Comforts", featured Jim's work as an interviewer. A freelance writer and radio producer who currently lives in the (southern) Black Hills of South Dakota, Jim has been heard on a variety of radio programs including National Public Radio and National Native News Radio. He has also been a columnist and freelance contributor for the Lakota Country Times and the Teton Times, as well as a columnist for the Rapid City Journal and Indian Country Today. Former editor/writer/photographer/cartoonist at The New Lakota Times, Jim’s commentaries have appeared in national and international publications including U.S. News & World Report, Bergen Record (NJ), Suburban Trends (NJ), New York Daily News, Roanoke Times (VA), The Observer (OR) and American Heritage Magazine.
