John Beldin-Quiñones’s Expertise I am strategic thinker with a dynamic 30-yr career serving the public, private and non-profit sectors. Fluent in three languages, I have global experience in world class organizations. Efficiency, clarity, mentoring, and stewardship of people and natural and technical resources are key ideals we can operationalize to make more sustainable organizations. I have supervisory, mentoring and team building acumen for projects in the built and natural environment. Currently, I am responsible for resourcing, directing and leading teams specialized in infrastructure disaster preparedness, response and recovery within USACE. But the last 30 years have also been increasingly worthwhile experiences in project management, operations, water resources planning, and civil and environmental engineering. My early career spanned through private industry, consulting and non-profit organizations in the USA, France, Latin America and southern Africa. In the last 15 years, I have delivered focused leadership on advancing infrastructure resilience programs, civil-military international coordination on humanitarian relief, team building and interagency partnering. My belief: we are bankrupting society by overspending resources on response and not investing enough on early warning, prevention and preparedness. By investing in, and empowering communities through awareness and capacity building, we can enhance our climate preparedness and disaster risk reduction efforts. I am committed to efficiently managing the full spectrum of engineering, science, education and planning efforts that support mitigation actions for all hazards across the globe: hurricanes, floods, wildfires, earthquakes, pandemics and man-made crises. I have multiple, parallel interests. In the near future I’m looking forward to being involved in renewable and alternative energy, and where it applies to oceanography, where my original passions lay. In retirement, I will work to reduce plastic waste streams from our oceans. This is where I believe I can blend technical interests and personal passions with the skills I acquired as a manager in government and in the private sector. I enjoy learning from younger generations and am fluent in Spanish and have worked in French. I look forward to dialogue with like-minded science, engineering and corporate social responsibility experts.
