He has received training and education through the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW). He continues to support efforts to end gender based violence and promote primary prevention and bystander intervention. John is a career educator with 25 years of experience working with both university and community college students to help develop both emerging and advancing student leaders and guide the college experiences of a diverse student population. He recently retired from his role as the Director of Student Conduct at St. Philip's College. He worked to ensure the academic environment was free of distracting behaviors that may derail a student’s opportunity for success. He deployed a restorative justice philosophy that reinforced the accountability model he used when adjudicating conduct cases. John is a Christian; father of three (John D., Taylor and Darius); a husband of 26 years to his departed wife, Angel Martin; a proud member of the Psi Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated; life member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; and serves on the Board of Directors of the 100 Black Men of San Antonio, Inc.
