Jon Foster’s Expertise The residential real estate industry has no shortage of licensed agents, especially here in CA. I learned early on that the #1 thing I could do is outwork my competition. I sold my first home when I was 24 years old, so being in my early 20's I had a stamina & energy advantage over my competitors, some of which were as old as my grandparents at the time. I'd knock on 300 doors around all my listings and invite those neighbors to my open houses. I knew I had to make up for my lack of experience with my work ethic or I'd fail miserably. Failure was NOT an option for me! I quickly became one of the top agents in my office (RE/MAX) of well over 100 agents. I wasn't smarter, wasn't more experienced and wasn't better than anyone, BUT I outworked almost ALL of them. My work ethic was my secret weapon in my 20's that I tried really hard not to forget why I was having success was mainly for this reason. I just turned 40 and now have been selling residential real estate for 15+ years. I'll never forgot that my work ethic has allowed me to first survive and now thrive in this business. Sometimes I get complacent, but quickly remember my roots and stay humble to the principals that allowed me to succeed. Today while work ethic remains a pillar of my daily routine, I have gained experience in relying on a couple other things worth sharing. 2 things stand out to me: 1) TAKING INITIATIVE, 2) HAVING CONFIDENCE. Take initiative to do anything and everything (ethically & legally) to close a deal, whatever that may be. Have confidence in what you are doing AND what you are saying. NEVER sit back and do nothing hoping a problem will solve itself because it won't and your sale will fall apart. I wish I could write a lot more, but LinkedIn only allows for a few more characters.
