  I am a retired academic whose work focused primarily on public involvement in health research (PIHR). My most senior position was Reader in Patient Experience and Public Involvement at the University of Hertfordshire. My research on PIHR included: 1. Alongside my academic career, I have held a number of management positions in both NHS and university settings. Such roles included the strategic lead for PIHR at the NIHR Research Design Service Yorkshire and Humber, based at the University of Sheffield; research governance manager at the NIHR South Yorkshire Comprehensive Local Research Network; and research governance manager at Sheffield Health and Social Research Consortium, based at Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust. I was an active member of a number of national and international bodies which promoted PIHR and participatory research methods: these included NIHR INVOLVE; the NIHR Stroke Research Network's steering group on public involvement; the HTAi Interest Sub-Group on Patient and Citizen Involvement in Heath Technology Assessment; and the International Collaboration for Participatory Health Research.
