More than 25 years later, I have continued to use what I learned that summer throughout my career in customer service. Understanding my customers’ needs and making sure they have a positive experience, even when they have issues or complaints, is the thing that makes me happiest in my work. The last few years in a managerial role has allowed me to teach those skills to other employees to ensure that all of our customers are returning customers. I have worked the last 17 years in an office environment as a sales representative, customer service representative, and most recently a customer service manager/supervisor, with my customer base consisting hospitals, schools and medical professionals for the past year, and school music departments and others in the music industry before that. The work has benefited me with a generous amount of experience working in fast-paced environments, requiring high levels of time management and multi-tasking skills. During this time, I also taught at music theory at Columbia College in Chicago, working with new students wanting to enter the music industry. In addition, I taught high school band and electronic music for seven years, and substitute taught at the middle school level for two years after that. Throughout my career in education and customer service, I have learned how each person’s needs are different. I pride myself in being able to tailor my interactions to what works best for each customer, whether it be managing their account or personally working with them to find the best product for their needs. I am currently looking for an opportunity to advance my career in an environment that will benefit from my skill set and variety of work experiences.
