  Going to college as a mature student has always been a dream of mine. When i left school i always thought id fall into a job and work my way up some day. This of course is just the dreams of a 17 year old kid and not the reality. My main interests leaving school was in working but i always had a love for engineering although that love never extended to math as i am sure is the case with lots of people. I carried on and had a few jobs but always felt that there was something missing or a deep regret. It was not until i got working for a renewable energy company that i found what i was really looking for. Working in this job gave me a sense of satisfaction. I was a hard worker and eager to learn. It was a hammer blow when the company closed but now i had a taste for it. I continued on learning and progressing until i set up my own company and gaining my solar installers certification. This was soon followed by my oil service and instillation certificate. Running the business gave me a great sense of accomplishment. I decided to close the business after 3 years as i got a fantastic offer of employment. Working in the water sector gave me a whole new experience. It was a fast paced environment with tight deadlines that took me all over the south west. When the contract finished the sister company gave me a contract to run a pipe relining rig. The training was fierce but amazing. the contract was very short but i enjoyed every moment of it. Not long after this i applied to work for USSR(Underground sewer system repair)A a pipe relining technician. An amazing company with exciting work and job opportunities. Unfortunately an illness in the family made me leave as i had to take care of my wife and 3 kids. I guess you could say this was the turning point. it was time to push the pause button and re asses my options. Taking stock of my career to date you could say i have built up a large skill set and i really needed to apply it to something new and exciting. I called my local Educational training board where i rectified my math problems and enrolled myself on the Bachelors of Energy Engineering Degree. At this point the jigsaw pieces fell into place and i genuinely mean It has been the best decision of my life as i am enjoying the course so much and of course adding to my skills. I am now entering my degree year and feel very optimistic. I guess the world of possibilities is now opening even further for me as i look forward to working in the Energy sector where i belong.
