Josh Cuddihy’s Expertise Josh Cuddihy completed his undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy at Brunel University, and worked as a chartered Physiotherapist in the NHS, HM Prison service and Fulham Football Club before studying medicine at King’s College London. Since qualifying as a Doctor, Josh Cuddihy is pursuing a career in anaesthesia and critical care medicine. He is currently taking time out of his training to undergo a PhD at Imperial College London, using mass spectrometry imaging to investigate the changes in human skin following burn injury, and how this contributes to generation of pain and burn wound progression. The knowledge generated from this study is hoped to help better manage patients who have experienced burn injury, reducing suffering and improving long term outcomes for patients. Alongside his academic study, Josh Cuddihy works part time as a fellow in Intensive Care at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital where his special interests include the management of burns intensive care patients and improving patient safety and morale following critical incidents in clinical practice. He has introduced a trainee “confession session” – a monthly meeting of trainees to discuss the narrative behind adverse incidents to learn the lessons behind error, help prevent “second victim” and support ongoing best practice amongst the trainee body. His academic and clinical work has been presented at International conferences in Palm Springs, California, US and Brussels, Belgium as well as at national burns and research meetings in the UK. He is the recipient of a PhD studentship and small grants for his research studies from the Westminster Medical Schools Charity. He is the winner of the RSM Section of Anaesthesia Trainee Essay Prize 2012, the Cheyne Edmunds Prize in Surgery and the GKT Rugby Scholarship from King’s College London 2013, and the South East Thames School of Anaesthesia (SETSA) Trainee Prize 2017. He completed his PhD at Imperial College London in 2023
