With 25+ years of experience in post-acute care settings, I have had the opportunity to be a clinician, a department manager, a leader in clinical rehabilitation and, through an extremely unexpected period of time, started an online community that has grown to over 25,000 subscribers. A decade into my career, I challenged myself to go back to school to get my doctorate, a decision which rejuvenated me. With the additional knowledge and skills attained, I transitioned to a clinical support role that has allowed me to not only grow in my professional career, but also in my personal life. I learned how to positively influence the clinical practice of others through program development strategies and implementing a model of knowledge translation to get my team to put evidence based practice into action. My career has unfolded in ways I never thought possible upon graduation. I have had the opportunity to be a guest lecturer at my alma mater, present at national and state conferences, to have my name published in a scholarly journal (twice!), and to be honored with an invitation from the AOTA to be on a panel of experts discussing the most recent payment model change. And I have helped so many people regain their independence in life; nothing has been more rewarding than that. Along my journey, I've clearly seen that learning never ends; it’s a life-long process that goes upward and onward. I continue to learn, and just as importantly, I enjoy helping others learn new things. Through the power of YouTube, I've learned a new way to reach and help even more people around the world. It's been an interesting journey and I look forward to what's to come. I’m hopeful, excited, and confident that I will to find opportunities to learn, problem-solve challenges and further grow so that I can continue to influence the lives of others in the most beneficial way possible.
