Kevin Knirr’s Expertise When I was barely old enough to walk, I fell in love with Lego’s as my parents would tell it. The first set I really remember putting together was an Indiana Jones Temple of Doom inspired set which my dad helped with at the time, and my passion for creating took flight from there. Every birthday and holiday season I would ask for more complex and difficult Lego sets, while recycling my older sets to create something new in the interim. Going through high school, I added math and science to my passion while also pursuing machine shop and pre-engineering courses. It was through these courses that I first got to learn how to operator a lathe and a CNC Mill as well as draft engineering drawings in AutoCAD and SolidWorks. These new skills along with my continued passions would keep me focused on my education at Iowa State University. Through my studies I learned what it meant to be a mechanical engineer while participating in engineering and volunteer organizations. I studied Physics, Mathematics, Thermodynamics, and so much more at ISU. Each subject presenting a new challenge that I approached with curiosity and excitement and overcame utilizing all that I had learned before. Now, as a part of the manufacturing industry, my passions remain with me. Searching for new projects and tackling each new challenge with creative solutions that aim to help increase efficiency and improve the operator condition. There are so many more things to learn, and I can’t wait for the next challenge to present itself on my journey.
