Kevin Tam’s Expertise I have a diverse research background with an emphasis on cancer research. My Bachelor’s degree was completed at the University of Victoria where I received a BSc in Microbiology (Hon). Following graduation, I pursued research in a laboratory at Simon Fraser University focused on breast cancer biology. I then completed my PhD at the University of British Columbia in the Experimental Medicine Program in June of 2017. My doctoral work was conducted at the Vancouver Prostate Centre at Vancouver General Hospital and examined molecular mechanisms governing prostate cancer progression. Through my graduate work I developed expertise in the cellular and molecular biology of prostate cancer and gained knowledge related to therapeutic development. Following this, I moved into industry where I gained valuable experience in developing, supporting, and distributing NGS assays for precision medicine. I have over a decade of experience in studying the molecular mechanisms of cancer, five years of experience in the clinical molecular diagnostics space, and two years of customer-facing work in deploying and supporting clinical assays for cancer. I have experience in research in a wide variety of disciplines. Through my various work experiences I have worked in labs at the UVic, SFU, UBC, Vancouver General Hospital, and at the UVic Genome BC Proteomics Centre as well as in labs at Health Canada and the NRC in Ottawa, Ontario. My research background is broad and includes the fields of genomics, cancer cell biology, infectious diseases, plant molecular biology, and immunology.
