Khalid Al-Begain’s Expertise Khalid Al-Begain (خالد البقاعين) is the founding President of Kuwait College of Science and Technology (KCST). Established in 2015, KCST is a highly ambitious private university in Kuwait. KCST is the fastest growing university in Kuwait in student numbers and research reputation. He is the Former President of the European Council for Modelling and Simulation (ECMS) and of the Federation of European Simulation Societies (EuroSim). Till 2017, he was a Professor and the Director of the Centre of Excellence in Mobile and Emerging Technologies at the University of South Wales, UK. He has been the founder and director of CEMAS, Centre of Excellence in Mobile Applications and Services (2010-15) rated as best managed centre in Wales. He received his PhD in Communications Engineering in 1989 from the Budapest Technical University, Hungary, and PgD in Management from University of Glamorgan, UK in 2011 and the prestigious “Senior Strategic Leadership” course with The Leadership Foundation in 2014. Among many awards, he is the Winner of the 2013 IWA Inspire Wales Award for Science and Technology. In 2006, he received Royal Recognition from HM the Queen to his contributions to the British scientific community. He was the university ambassador on the Welsh Government Ministerial Advisory Steering Board on National projects such as the National Cybersecurity Academy and ICT in Schools. He served as a UNESCO Expert in networking, British Computer Society Fellow and Chartered IT Professional, Senior Member of the IEEE, and member of the UK EPSRC College. In 2023, he was elected as Full Member of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society. He is on the Advisory Board of the Leadership Foundation for "Finances for Senior Managers in HE". To date, he has been the General Chair of 35 international conferences. He has two granted patents, co-authored and edited 20 books, and published more than 200 papers in refereed journals and conference. He is the co-inventor of MOSEL: The Modelling, Specification and Evaluation Language. He supervised 28 successful PhD projects. He also acted as Expert Witness in the major mobile IPR court cases between Nokia-InterDigital and Nokia-HTC. He founded and acted as Director for 3 companies.
