  I grew up just outside of Durham, NC as a self-proclaimed “distracted kid” – often finding myself in trouble for having excessive energy, daydreaming, and sketching in class. While initially interested in graphic design and photography entering college, I never felt confident enough to think of my creative side as more than a hobby. My path led me to Duke University where I planned concerts, managed an outdoor adventure program, chaperoned international service trips, ran a media studio, and everything in between. Eventually, I found my way back to design and photography through my work with the creative students of the Duke Innovation Design Agency, and Pitch Story Lab. For almost two decades, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with amazingly talented students who have encouraged my creative growth as much, if not more than I have encouraged theirs. While I still struggle with creative confidence, my experience has made me passionate about confronting imposter syndrome, perfectionism, and gatekeeping among creatives. Today, I work as the managing director for The Chronicle and Pitch Story Lab at Duke University, where I strive to foster creative growth and champion emerging creatives. Thankfully, I have learned to harness the same energy, daydreaming, and sketching initially deemed “distracting” as a child into creative, whimsical output.
