Leighton Triplow’s Expertise Australian high tenor Dr Leighton H. G. Triplow is known for his beautifully polished and even sound, exquisite phrasing, vocal agility, and musical intelligence. He possesses a wealth of performance experience and a versatile repertory spanning Baroque to contemporary music with a voice well-suited to corporate events, private functions, religious ceremonies, weddings, and funerals. Leighton is in regular demand as a freelance soloist and ensemblist around Melbourne in all manner of performance settings, having presented solos at Trinity College Chapel, Queen’s College Chapel, The Kelvin Club, St Michael’s Uniting Church, The Canberra International Music Festival, WAAPA International Art Song Festival, Dartington Music Summer School, and on 3MBS live radio. He has also sung at the Handel House Museum, International Anthony Burgess Foundation, and Australian High Commission during professional development excursions to the United Kingdom. In addition to his position as cantor at various Catholic churches around Melbourne, such as St Francis’ Church in the CBD and Camberwell Basilica, he has served as a long-time member of the acclaimed Australian Chamber Choir which tours extensively around Europe. Leighton completed his PhD (Classical Voice and Musicology) in his mid-20s at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne under the supervision of Dr Erin Helyard, Dr David R. M. Irving, and Liane Keegan. His doctoral research explored constructs of gender, performance styles, and character realisation in the domestic secular songs of English Restoration composer Henry Purcell (1659–1695). Prior to this period of intense study, Leighton achieved a high distinction aggregate in his Bachelor of Music (Hons) with practice-led specialisations in High Renaissance, English Baroque, twentieth-century art song, and contemporary Australian vocal repertoire.
