  I've been in the field of sexuality education for over 19 years. I began my career at the community level and quickly found a passion for working with adolescents. Upon completion of my Masters Degree in Human Sexuality Education, I began teaching mandatory human sexuality classes in a private high school outside of Washington, D.C. I revamped the 10th and 12th grade curriculum for the two courses I taught, and worked with my department chair to align the 6th and 8th grade curricula so students' experiences were more sequential and meaningful. With this experience under my belt, I moved to Washington State where I served as the state's Program Supervisor for Sexual Health & HIV Prevention Education out of the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. With 295 school districts and a then-new state law mandating comprehensive sexuality education, my work was cut out for me. During my time in that position, I provided technical assistance and policy guidance throughout the state, reported to the Legislature, presented around the state and at nationally-attended CDC funded-partner meetings, and advocated successfully to have sexual behavior questions added to the state's version of the Youth Risk Behavior Survey. Following my time in Washington, I became Director of Education and Special Projects for a national sexuality education organization known as Answer. In this capacity, I provided leadership for their award-winning website and magazine, Sex, Etc., and continued my work providing technical assistance to grantees seeking guidance on implementing comprehensive sexuality education in their respective states. I joined the JMU Health Center as a Health Educator in November 2011 and over the years my job shifted into that of Health Education Coordinator. In 2017 I moved to the academic side of campus, taking a faculty position in the College of Health and Behavioral Studies. I enjoy teaching over 500 students in a variety of courses.
