"This interactive online course, primarily designed for physical therapists (PT) and PT students, provides the learner with the background needed to successfully utilize the knowledge and skills of a physical therapist assistant (PTA) in patient/client care. The course will clarify the team roles and relationships to assure the best patient/client outcomes." – APTA Learning Center. – Schedule weekly patients. – Perform clinic maintenance and prepared equipment for patient use. – Assist with modality set up and clean up. – Facilitate personal learning through observation of Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant. – Apply classroom knowledge to clinical observation through discussion with Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant.5 week outpatient orthopedic clinical rotation to practice examination and intervention skills associated with the general practice of physical therapy under the supervision and guidance of a licensed physical therapist. Engaged in the process of client evaluation and determination of a physical therapy diagnosis as well as generating and applying an appropriate individualized plan of care for clients. Interventions practiced include coordination, communication, documentation, patient education and direct interventions, including but not limited to gait training, administration of modalities, therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, and functional mobility training.• Provide patients with support through their hospital stay. • Perform basic patient care and interventions to monitor and assure patient safety through constant observation of the patient within the patient’s hospital room. • Assist nurses in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment for patients.12 week outpatient specialty clinical rotation to practice examination and intervention skills associated with the general practice of physical therapy under the supervision and guidance of a licensed physical therapist in the realm of oncology rehabilitation. Engaged in the process of client evaluation and determination of a physical therapy diagnosis associated with the patient's medical oncology diagnosis, as well as generating and applying an appropriate individualized plan of care for clients. Interventions practiced include coordination, communication, documentation, patient education and direct interventions, including but not limited to gait training, administration of modalities, therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, and functional mobility training. Developed therapeutic experience with manual lymphatic drainage and applied all prior knowledge to the oncology population, prior to, throughout, and following active chemotherapy and radiation treatments as well as cancer related surgical procedures. Provided therapy for patients with various cancer related diagnoses including breast cancers, pelvic cancers, head and neck cancers, as well as neurological conditions including chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy, cancer related fatigue, lymphedema, radiation therapy management and other diagnoses.12 week outpatient orthopedic clinical rotation to practice examination and intervention skills associated with the general practice of physical therapy under the supervision and guidance of a licensed physical therapist. Engaged in the process of client evaluation and determination of a physical therapy diagnosis as well as generating and applying an appropriate individualized plan of care for clients. Interventions practiced include coordination, communication, documentation, patient education and direct interventions, including but not limited to gait training, administration of modalities, therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, and functional mobility training. Gained experience with the Return to Activities program, evaluating and following up with clients throughout the program. Continued to advance manual therapy skills and physical therapy diagnoses throughout the upper and lower extremities and spine. Worked with surgeons to implement their post-surgical protocols and followed up regarding patient progress.
