Marc Chapuy’s Expertise I am GNC advanced studies engineer at Airbus Defence and Space, the well-known European space industry leader. In this role, I am developing new operational concepts, guidance, navigation and control technologies and injecting these developments in the phases 0-A of future space missions. This position is very rich and does not only consist in technical work but also gives me the opportunity to manage or work with small teams of engineers (up to 15) from various disciplines. I also participate and manage tenders necessary to secure our research and development budgets. This position thus grants me a complete overview of a project life, including management, contractual and financial aspects. I work in direct contact with ESA, and also with the European Union in the frame of the H2020 program. My most exciting projects include – for obvious reasons – the work on small bodies and Mars landing, the study of deflection methods for hazardous asteroids and of course the JUICE preparatory studies. My colleagues and costumers know me as a passionate and reliable engineer as well as a demanding project manager. While my technical competence is acknowledged, I am convinced my main qualities lie my polyvalence and ability to quickly learn in any domain and easily adapt to new and complex situations. The aspects of my job I enjoy the most are the opportunities it provides to use skills in the many different disciplines involved in spacecraft design, as well as the possibility to participate in overall spacecraft design and operation definition. This is the direction towards which I would like my career to continue developing. I have a Supaero engineer diploma as well as a Master of Research in Astrophysics obtained through an intensive double curriculum. I was a spacecraft mechanical engineer before occupying my current position and also had the opportunity to work in research laboratories, in particular a very exciting internship at NASA Ames Research Center.
