Marco Magasic’s Expertise Throughout my professional life I have always pursued roles that revolve around community and learning. I started my working life a local news journalist, which gave me the chance to live in several unique towns and mix with diverse populations. I wrote stories that ranged from lifestyle pieces and profile features to news stories that covered politics and conflict. I was then given the opportunity write a PhD thesis. I built on the research skills I learnt as a journalist to study the political, social and civic impact of local newspaper closure in the outback opal mining town of Lightning Ridge. After completing my thesis I was offered a place on the NSW Government's graduate program. I am currently working on the Disability Strategy team at the Department of Education as a policy officer. My diverse skill set includes; report and copy writing, conducting interviews and focus groups, qualitative data analysis, compiling literature reviews, video editing and public speaking.
