Matthew Brooks’s Expertise Throughout my life, I have been fascinated with technology. As a kid, that was enjoying computer games; through college, it was learning how to code Microsoft VBA and using Aspen Plus simulation software; and in industry, it was utilizing data acquisition systems and mapping software. When I graduated college in 2019, I started working for Ash Grove Cement as an Environmental Engineer where I helped maintain environmental compliance on the plant level for air, water, and land regulations and permits. Through this job, my fascination and love of technology grew as I learned to work with various software packages, such as VIM Technologies Inc.’s CEM Link 6. I also used my Microsoft VBA skills to track emissions. In 2023, I got the opportunity to work for Bayer as a Senior Environmental Engineer where I help maintain environmental compliance on the plant level for water and waste regulations and permits. Here, I learned how to utilize technology to better assist with environmental compliance. This included mapping and modeling software, such as QGIS and SAFER, to better communicate environmental compliance situations. It also meant looking for ways to digitize inspections and environmental compliance obligations. As I progress in my career, I am excited to see how I can continue to apply technology to help with environmental compliance.
