Mark Twain coined the phrase, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." I agree with Twain in that one should never put trust in a statistic, but rather the statistician’s ability to make valid inferences. For as Ronald Coase once said, "If you torture the data long enough, they will confess anything." As an economist, I take great interest not only in the analysis of economic data / econometrics, but also the many facets of decision making. Understanding the motivations and thought processes (whether rational or irrational) that go into the decisions made by individuals, firms, industries and government is extremely fascinating to me.
