Matthew Taylor’s Expertise Matt is an experienced Hardware & Silicon Validation Engineer with a bent for solving customer problems that arise when software hits silicon. He has been in the field for over two decades, with the last eight specialising in getting Apple’s amazing SoCs into production across the breadth of our product lines. He’s happy solving problems locally or with teams remotely and well understands the challenges working with internal teams across an entire company or the CM across an ocean. Specialties: Post Silicon Bug hunting and fault isolation. ‘Debugging the debug path’ for products with challenging use cases and/or physical design requirements. Looking into debug requirements of the future and how to start building the infrastructure for them today. Working to ensure debugability and security don’t have to be mutually exclusive all the time. Digging into the full HW/SW stack (Be it RTL, schematics, C, Kernel, user facing applications) to find the cause of functional failures on the bench or from the factory. Excellent Communication & Teamwork skills across disciplines, experience levels and locations. Strong appreciation for what motivates people, that leadership is more that just having staff report to you and it takes expertise from all kinds to ship a great product. Deeply understand Design, SoCs, HW, SW and supporting tools are all secondary to the integrated product they are part of and should not be looked at in isolation. Well written SW is key to getting the best out any product, so even a HW focused engineer needs to fire up a debugger and step through low level code.
