Maximilian Bauernfeind’s Expertise Topological Insulators (TIs) show promising potentials to revolutionize the current semiconducting-based electronics. Dissipationless, spin-polarized, and quantized electron conduction, to name just a few signatures of a TI, are able to tackle the problem of a further miniaturization of transistors on a computer chip or could even open new ways to design our future electronics (Topological Quantum Computing, Spintronics). In this light, my PhD project in phyiscs at the University of Würzburg involves the growth and characterization of two-dimensional films in the monolayer regime made of indium (In) on semiconducting substrates.
