  Hi there! My name is Michaela. I am an undergraduate lecturer and research thesis supervisor at the South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP) and Psychology Masters (Cum Laude) graduate from Stellenbosch University. As a Psychology Masters graduate at Stellenbosch University, I compiled a dissertation exploring emotional closeness between fathers and adolescent daughters of low-income, Afrikaans speaking communities in South Africa. Over the last five years I have been involved in research on “fatherhood” in South Africa and now continue exploring this field as a supervisor for Psych. Honours students. My current research explores intersections of masculinity; race; socio-economic status and parenting with the family psychology field specific to the South African context. Additionally, I lecture Psychology at University level. Lecturing has been a phenomenal experience thus far. My teaching style is extremely engaging and practical; aiming to empower students to have complex understanding of theory and the ability to apply it within the counselling sphere. I currently lecture counselling theories; theories of personality and developmental psychology. Lastly, I am part of the Arise Family Organisation. As an intern counsellor, I co-facilitate psychosocial development programs that aim to strengthen family dynamics in the South African context.
