Mohamed Zaghloul’s Expertise My research features the use of new fiber processing and embedding techniques to incorporate optical fibers into metallic structures using Additive Manufacturing (AM), and the sensors whether they be localized point sensors (Fiber Bragg Gratings) or distributed are interrogated using various optical processing techniques (Rayleigh-OFDR, OTDA, Brillouin-OTDA/OTDR, .. etc.). Our sensors for temperature, strain, ionizing radiation, gas species concentration and acoustic waves; were implemented in various harsh environments like in nuclear reactor cores, solid oxide fuel cells, and turbines, and have myriad uses in structural health monitoring, electrical power grids and well-bore applications.
