Mollie Yates’s Expertise Mollie is a resource for psychiatrists, psychiatric ARNPs, and primary care providers. Do you have clients who feel they are autistic or have ADHD but who were not diagnosed as children? Perhaps you have patients on the autism spectrum who lost access to services when they turned 18. Do you have patients with chronic pain, long Covid, fibromyalgia or immune disorders who could be functioning better despite solid medication management? Some patients may just seem “stuck” – either emotionally or developmentally. Occupational therapy can help patients understand their strengths and strategize to minimize their challenges. Having worked for over a decade in an inpatient psychiatric setting, Mollie is knowledgeable about mental health symptoms and medications and how to integrate occupational therapy within a multidisciplinary treatment plan. Mollie received her master’s in occupational therapy from the University of Washington in 2010. Prior to graduate studies, she majored in architecture at Barnard College of Columbia University. This hands-on, creative major fostered a passion for creative expression that she continues in her work as an OT. For the past 12 years, Mollie has been employed in both inpatient and outpatient behavioral health at Swedish Edmonds. She has brought special interests in sensory processing, trauma-informed care, mindfulness and creative expression to both roles. As the only occupational therapist in a partial hospitalization setting in Washington State, she has developed an expertise in strengths based mental health treatment that integrates with medication management and talk therapy. Mollie has worked with numerous master’s students and has guest lectured at the University of Washington’s Master of Occupational Therapy mental health courses on functional and cognitive assessment. She is currently a member of the UWMOT program’s Faculty Advisory Board.
