  I’ve had a long history of educating and caring for children. I graduated from high school in 2011 with four years’ experience in Early Childhood Education and Teaching both through my education and a co-op position as a Teacher’s Aide at a local school. I continued on to obtain a position at a local childcare center, Little People’s College. While my passion for children has not been diminished, during my experience at UMass Dartmouth, I realized that I have great leadership ability, which motivated me to become a management major. The coursework has had a strong focus on teamwork and throughout multiple team projects, in the role of leader is where I’ve found myself to be the most comfortable. At my previous organization, I filled a dual role. I was a Group Leader, overseeing the after school program, and an Accounts Receivable Clerk. As a Group Leader, I was responsible for planning and preparing lessons according to the monthly curriculum, taking advantage of “teachable moments” and leading by example for children and other school age staff. As an Accounts Receivable Clerk my duties involved keeping all child and personnel files up to date both in paper form and in our online database, as well as keeping record of tuition and billing. Although not a supervisory, I feel as though this experience will be useful to me in a future administrative role. I have had some experience outside of working with children. My first job was a cashier at Demoulas Market Basket. During this time, I was able to hone my interpersonal skills. I am confident that through the customer service experience I have gained, I will be able to use the interpersonal skills to clearly communicate objectives and motivate others. I feel that it is of great significance to state that upon graduating in May 2016, I do not wish to be merely a manager, but a true leader who inspires others to work in collaboration in order to reach a common goal.
