Monika Kirner-Ludwig’s Expertise In January 2015, Dr. Kirner-Ludwig joined the Department of Educational Theory and Practice at UAlbany as a postdoctoral associate. Her teaching and research interests focus on the highly interdisciplinary area of Intercultural Pragmatics, which she approaches from both synchronic and historical viewpoints. She earned her Ph.D. in Historical English Linguistics and Medieval Literature from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, Germany, in 2013, while full-time-lecturing at the University of Augsburg, Germany (from 2010 to 2014). Dr. Kirner-Ludwig was twice awarded an 'Internationalization' scholarship grant for excellent female postdocs by the University of Augsburg and is currently involved in a number of joint international linguistic research projects. These include, one the one hand, cooperations with renowned colleagues such as Prof. Zahra Mustafa Awad (University of Jordan) on The Image of Arab Women in Western News Reports, and Prof. Oliver Traxel (Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg) on pseudo-archaisms in modern texts. On the other hand, Dr. Kirner-Ludwig has been promoting auspicious graduate students and junior researchers over the last years, which has brought along joint interdisciplinary and interlinguistic projects on e.g. J.R.R. Tolkien's works and language (publication in progress) as well as studies into (the pragmatics of) today's youth language phenomena. In 2014, Dr. Kirner-Ludwig was invited to join The Nerthus Project (cf. www.nerthusproject.com), which currently is one of the best reputed programmes in the Spanish scientific system.
