Nathan Edwards’s Expertise An engineer with a broad experience across industry, government and academia. Currently I am working in academia as a Research Fellow across two government projects. My primary research is experimentally based dynamic characterisation of materials in the impact and smart structures laboratories. The other role is based primarily around computational mechanics. Through this work and my recent PhD, I have extensive multi-disciplinary experience through design, project management, validation and verification and test engineering. A typical week at the moment can see me mechanically testing, analysing experimental data, completing microstructure observations or planning experimental work to further enhance our understanding of anything my current work shows up. I enjoy problem solving and experimental work, always wanting to further my own knowledge as to why something happens or how it works, and can it be improved. I'm not afraid to 'get my hands dirty' and am typically the person that my colleagues will go to for help sorting out any issues. Currently I'm working on both material characterisation for numerical modelling (material and damage models) and have joined a project modelling fatigue life of laser clad components and repaired components. I love discussing my work and so time permitting am happy to talk to anyone interested in adiabatic shear (particularly in defence applications such as 'plugging' failure).
