Nicholas Booker’s Expertise Third Class Interprovincial Power Engineer with four years experience in both control room and maintenance roles. Power Engineering Technology graduate from Saskatchewan Polytechnic and working towards my Second Class ticket with two out of six papers successfully passed. In my position with Mosaic in the Saskatchewan potash industry, I worked in a control room operations role with some of my time spent performing plant maintenance. I operated the high pressure steam and utilities plant via Delta V DCS and all troubleshooting out in the field. Directly responsible for the production of high pressure steam from two watertube boilers, plant and instrument air through large screw compressors with dryer systems and potable water through reverse osmosis for the entire mine site. I also performed all preventative maintenance on plant equipment and minor reactive maintenance tasks like changing belts, filters, gaskets, fittings, RO membrane cleaning and all associated isolations. At Mosaic I trained under very knowledgeable and experienced operators within a department that has zero lost injury time for over 40 years. Also responsible for emergency fire response/alarm activation for both surface and underground. Previously worked in healthcare facilities in more maintenance heavy roles for the Saskatchewan Health Authority. This experience honed my mechanical aptitude and confidence to solve problems in the field. Working with boilers, HVAC systems, backup power generators, chillers and being responsible for general property maintenance were my primary responsibilities. Also a member of the emergency fire response team. Before changing careers and becoming a Power Engineer I spent over 15 years in the hospitality industry. I developed valuable skills that have directly helped me in my new career including excellent team working abilities, high level interpersonal skills, how to organize myself efficiently and a creative approach to solving problems. This experience also allowed me to assume leadership positions, mentor junior team members and be a part of business decision making. Currently I am focused on earning my Second Class Power Engineer certificate and utilizing all the experiences I have obtained throughout my working career to eventually obtain a management role. I like the challenges positions like this offer and want to continue to learn and evolve into the future.
