Ofer Gover’s Expertise In our lab we study metabolism and Intestinal Bowel Disease (IBD). Most or our work is done in cell culture and animal models. In that respect we are interested in the effect of phyto cannabinoid on intestinal inflammation ,macrophages activation and metabolic syndrome with regard to obesity. Other project deal with the beta-glucans that are produced in mushroom and yeasts on both IBD and poultry health. Studies also include the effect of the metabolic environment on islets of langerhans. Changes in the metabolic environment manifested in obesity affect pancreatic alpha and beta cells. We are looking at the changes in Mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) activity in regards to these changes. Apart from all these I also manage the Faculty of Agriculture mouse metabolic unit. It is composed of Sable Promethion metabolic system. This system tracks mouse metabolism in an non-intrusive manner called indirect calorimetry. This can indicate changes in metabolism due to different treatments including diets and pharmacological interventions.
