I saw that excitement about the benefits was tempered with uncertainty about how to deal with the challenges. This uncertainty arose because of the pace of change in AI, the fluid regulatory environment, and the unhelpful polarisation of the debate between AI progress and AI ethics. Moreover, I saw that many existing efforts to promote ethical AI are overly focused on compliance, which risks an ethical, responsible approach being seen as a burden to be managed. Therefore, I founded Daedalus Futures to support leaders cut through the uncertainty surrounding AI, and go beyond a compliance based approach to instead create real strategic value.
