Oren Whyche-Shaw’s Expertise Oren E. Whyche-Shaw was the presidential nominee and Senate confirmed U.S. Executive Director at the African Development Bank in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Prior to joining the Bank, she was Deputy Assistant Administrator for the USAID Africa Bureau. Ms. Whyche-Shaw led the Bureau's private sector, financial access and trade development activities on the continent. Ms. Whyche-Shaw’s led the Africa Bureau’s Office of Southern Africa Affairs and the Office of Administrative Management Services. Prior to her last portfolio, she was responsible for leading the Office of West Africa during the Ebola outbreak and the Sustainable Development Office. She served for three years as the Africa Bureau’s Principal Advisor to the Assistant Administrator for Africa. While at USAID, Ms. Whyche-Shaw has served as the USAID's interagency Coordinator for the G8 Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition as well as Coordinator for the Africa Partnership for Growth, the Trade Africa Initiatives. and the Champion for the organization's Blacks in Government chapter. Prior to joining USAID in 2011, Ms. Whyche-Shaw served as the Director for the Office of African Nations and Senior Advisor in the Multilateral Development Bank Office of the Department of Treasury. Ms. Whyche-Shaw’s diversified career includes leadership positions in the private, financial, not-for-profit and multilateral sectors. Ms. Whyche-Shaw led the agricultural and entrepreneurial development projects as Vice President for Africa with Technoserve, Inc. Ms. Whyche-Shaw also has held leadership positions in Private Sector Investments Department at the African Development Bank; Chair of Plan International USA; an investment banker at Citibank, N.A. and J.P. Morgan; Manager of Global Acoustic Businesses at Owens-Corning; Manager of Global Banking for R.J.Reynolds Industries, Inc.; and, former President of the Africa Venture Capital Association (now, the Africa Private Equity and Venture Capital Association). Ms. Whyche-Shaw's avocation is astronomy and space. She is a member of the Astronomy Section of AAAS, the Overview Roundtable. Ms. Whyche-Shaw has won medals for her participation in Adult Space Camp and the newly initiated Adult Advanced Space Camp. She is also an alumna of the Zero-G flight. Ms. Whyche-Shaw holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Theoretical Mathematics and French from Capital University in Columbus, OH. As the first Citibank Fellow, she received a master's degree in Finance, Money and Financial Markets, and International Business from Columbia University.
