Owura Osei-Frimpong’s Expertise I graduated with a 2:1 in Economics and Finance from Queen Mary University of London in 2009 at the peak of the credit crisis. I traded cars which supported me and my family financially through university. As the job market was turbulent, I picked this up full time but upon the arrival of my first born, I decided to opt for a more secure option. In 2011, I joined RBS for 7 years via the Graduate Scheme. As a graduate I shadowed various desks in the business and commercial division which eventually led to me managing a lending book of 2.6m for a c150 clients. This is where my passion for Relationship Management was initiated. The good feedback received from clients resulted in a full-time position in the Specialised Relationship Management team covering financially stressed businesses. Although covering these clients came with some challenges, it allowed me to build resilience in handling problem cases as well as adapt to different situation ethics which broadened my relationship management/ negotiation skills. After 3 successful years in the Business & Commercial division and following advice from my mentors, I secured a role in the Corporate Banking division of RBS covering Financial Institutions and Professional Services with revenues between 50m-4bn. Although Relationship Management was a key requirement for this role, the sophistication of the clients required financial prowess to cater to the complex nature of transactions. As I got more senior in the role, my responsibilities grew to include delivering on key stakeholder projects which enhanced my exposure to senior management. After 7 years and following various business transformations at RBS, I was after a different challenge. This led me to AIB where I joined as an Associate covering the Hotels and leisure sector. However, after some time in the role, I decided to take a career break following the birth of my third child. Whilst on paternity, I continued to work on my self-development by passing the CFA level 1 exam. I also had time to give back to the community by volunteering as a Maths teacher at a supplementary school as well as mentoring young students. To stay vested and up to date in the financial markets, I made the decision to transfer my pension from Legal & General to a self-managed account.
