Mr. Palaniappan has earned his Executive MBA degree from the University of Michigan Stephen M. Ross School of Business and a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University. After graduation, Mr. Palaniappan gained experience as a Senior Safety and Crashworthiness Engineer at Key Safety systems and General Motors until joining Toyota Motor North America R&D in 2001. Since joining Toyota, Mr. Palaniappan has taken on a large responsibility as Principal Engineer in 2006 and Senior Engineering Manager in 2009 for vehicle development. Mr. Palaniappan took additional responsibility in 2011 as Co-Leader of the Collaborative Safety Research Center (CSRC). In 2015 as General Manager of the Quality promotion department, Mr. Palaniappan directed multiple groups in charge of Development quality, Training, Outflow prevention, Early detection and Early resolution of field issues, Recurrence prevention, Compliance, and Big Data analytics. In 2020 as Group Manager for the Performance Analysis and Evaluation Department. In this position, Mr. Palaniappan is responsible for leading 50 team members in research, programming, CAE/CFD, and physical evaluation in the field of Materials, Anti-Corrosion, Lubricant, Catalyst Motor, Li-Ion Battery, Durability, Seat, Closures, Environment, NV, Aerodynamics, and HVAC. Mr. Palaniappan’s current role as Executive Program Manager for Advanced Mobility, Advanced Product Planning Office (APPO) evaluates emerging technologies and partners with suppliers/startups in advanced mobility to deliver new products quickly using the Agile process.
