Have deep experience advising clients on brand positioning, brand management and perpetually acting with a laser-focused brand stewardship no matter the brand or category. This experience extends beyond communication and into the realm of product development and business strategy which necessitates ramping up quickly and iteratively knowledge and skills within service design thinking and product strategy. All of these experience have taught me 10 tenets I believe: 1. Always start with the assumption that people don’t care and think what we do is shit. It’s the uncomfortable truth that’s needed to grow brands. 2. Planning is ultimately the application of imagination to clients’ business issues, helping create entirely new futures for our clients’ businesses and brands. Naiveté crossbreed with rigour. 3. Humility is an undervalued trait. Stay humble and not precious of your work because people are the ultimate critics of the work, not you or the client. 4. A strategist’s end game is not a presentation or a creative brief, but continuously making sense of chaos and ambiguity. 5. Know what you don’t know. We all bring bias and pre-conceived notions into a room - eliminate it. 6. Be culturally sensitive. If all you know is advertising then every problem will require an ad-shaped solution. 7. A strategist will never know the business better than the client, but outside-perspective will break the cycle. 8. Being T-shaped will help understand the full process. It will make you think of outcomes rather than simply completing tasks. 9. Be prepared and open to failure. But make sure you formalise learning. 'Go easy on failure and hard on learning. 10. Skills of empathy and listening need to be reinstated and arbitrary words like “consumers” and “content” need to be let go.
