Having had a multi-faceted career in journalisim, finance, public service, and investment consulting, I joined the faculty of 140-year old St. Paul's University in Tokyo - known to most Japanese as Rikkyo University - as professor of business and finance in 2014 and finally managed to retire at the end of March 2021. Recently published paper on "Alienation, Authenticity and the Future of Japanese Tourism" in the Rikkyo Bulletin of Tourism Research (March 2017), which you can find online in the academic archives. I have about 1,000 tsubo of Yamanashi meadow to look after, this year the weeds grew into jungles of green. We even have an Ando Takao museum gallery, so you don’t have to get on a boat for Naoshima, the Inland Sea “art village.” Hokuto is 3 hours by car or train from Tokyo, plenty of lodgings and great stuff to do, from solo travelers to families and groups.
