Peter Weideling’s Expertise As a leader who thrives at the cusp of innovation, I know what it takes to advance large organizations through major change. I’ve built and scaled global operations—including DevOps, Infrastructure, Incident Management, Engineering, QE, and Technical Support—for companies at the forefront of technology disruption. An early adopter of AWS, I’ve been guiding companies through large-scale transitions to replace on-premise software product sales with hosted and public cloud offerings since 2011. Often recruited to address “impossible” challenges, my sweet spot is providing clarity for ambiguous operational challenges, breaking them down to identify solutions across multiple product areas, and mobilizing diverse teams around a singular purpose that moves the company forward. Building from the ground up is where it’s most exciting, and where I can have the greatest impact on technological, functional, and cultural change. To achieve this, I assemble nimble organizations that can execute complex improvements and M&A integrations to gain and maintain the lead in the competitive cloud landscape. A key success factor for these rapidly growing, geo-distributed teams is an environment where they can flourish, bolstered by a shared sense of accountability. Currently, I’m the VP of Cloud Ops at VMware, where I’ve led the organization from an on-prem to cloud infrastructure and run a global organization that includes a Sustaining Engineering QE team in Bangalore, an Incident Management team, and a DevOps team supporting the transition to VMware on AWS. A pivotal achievement was converting our traditional sustaining engineering team to DevOps/SRE. In 2020, I was appointed to VP of VMware Government Services to streamline and accelerate the Cloud Services portfolio to the US public sector—changing the way we approach that market. Earlier, I was tapped to serve Bracket Computing as advisor and later joined as their first ops hire, where I built and led customer success, professional services, and solutions architecture. Prior to that, I moved to London, where I oversaw Cisco’s ScanSafe acquisition integration and ran the Cloud Web Security portfolio. I quickly assumed global accountability for customer success and data center ops for on-premise and cloud email & web security solutions, managing 40+ DCs worldwide. I launched my career as a systems integrator in Japan, managed implementation services at IBM, and led global support & ops at Sylantro and IronPort. Beyond work, I look for opportunities to compete in triathlon, swimming, and mountain biking events.
