Phil Chambers’s Expertise Phil Chambers, a wheelchair user advises countryside, green space; historic buildings and museum managers in meeting the recreational and learning needs of socially excluded groups and in particular disabled people. He was a founder member of the Fieldfare Trust, publishing the Countryside for All Standards and is a Design Council Expert - Specialist ~inclusive design. He advocates the Social Model of Disability and the principles of Universal Design Phil Chambers Consultancy was established in 2002 and works across a range of heritage environments including public, private and voluntary organisations. Flagship projects have included Sheffield Industrial Museum Trust Access All Areas, Natural Resources Wales - Equality Impact Assessment and York Minster – Revealing the Minster. Phil has carried out many access audits and produced inclusive access plans during his career and in particular ones that have assisted in successful Grant applications and through RIBA 1-7 criteria. He specialises in working with conservation managers, audience development, curatorial and training professionals to provide an access plan that is clear, informative and complements the work of co-professionals.. Clients include the Canal and River Trust, Natural Resources Wales, RSPB, Yorkshire Water, Wessex Water and the Royal Parks. Phil is an inclusive access advisor to York Museum Trust and works with a range of museums and historic buildings to provide access for all within a context of balancing access with conservation of the heritage asset. Phil offers training and development to enable service providers to engage with disabled people and their advocates to meet and exceed the Equality Act (2010). He has facilitated a range of sustainable inclusive access forums on behalf of such as Horniman Museum and Gardens, Sheffield Industrial Museum Trust and a joint venture with the Sir John Soane’s and Hunterian Museums. Most recent inclusive access work has been with Hinton Ampner NT, Trolleybus Museum, Calverley Old Hall Landmark Trust and with YMT Kiplin Hall and Gardens.
