Philip Andrews’s Expertise Did a series of casual jobs, until I founded Moles Club in 1978 at the age of 25. After a 2 month re-fit done on a shoe-string the doors finally opened on 31st December 1978. It was a struggle at first, but about 4 years later, I bought the building and never looked back. I weathered a few recessions, which were of course difficult but we managed to stay afloat. It wasn't until the current one, which depending on who you talk to started in 2008 or so, when I made the decision to sell Moles - mainly due to the unsocial hours I was forced to keep to run it effectively. Unfortunately the new owners ran the business into the ground, and eventually went into administration in July 2012. Tom Maddicot and myself went back into the business as a duo, and now run Moles Club again. We are building a very strong brand again, we've trebled the turnover, and are getting some really good bands in again. Update - in March 2014, we had a catastrophic fire which shut us down. We hope to re-open on 26th Novembe 2015! It's been a struggle - we were chronically under insured! Broker claim in progress! My advice 12 months will NEVER be enough. You need 3 years and 4 if it's a listed building. You have been warned! I also run the Chapel Arts Centre in Bath, and am the co-owner of The Jane Austen Centre. I ran the Porter Pub next door to Moles Club for around 15 years, but decided to sell that and concentrate on Moles Club and Chapel Arts Centre. Currently we are in the process of making an application for charitable status to enable us to carry Chapel Arts Centre forward.
