Phillip Jonsson’s Expertise One of my favorite memories from my time in college was an assignment in my Intro to Marketing Class. We were tasked as a group to create a service that would appeal to us, the students, as our target demo. I relished the opportunity to use my problem solving skills along with my creative side. The end result was a concept for a fast casual build-your-own pasta chain geared at providing tasty food, served fast, with ample portions, for cash strapped college kids. The restaurant concept wasn’t what I look fondly back on. I loved the story we told. We didn’t start out talking about our business plan; we started out talking about a fictional student. Making that person feel real with similarities to our classmates such as basic necessities coupled with limited time and financial resources. We also sprinkled in musicians and movies this person was a fan of in an effort and to endear the character to our audience using the likeness of a popular actor to give our audience a face to associate them with. We showed our audience that we wanted them to be a part of what we were doing. My professor described marketing to us as “discovering needs and meeting those needs.” And that is as true now as it was then. Companies that view their customers as a dollar sign and not a person with real feelings, concerns, and value are doing a disservice to the consumer and themselves. I am a driven problem solver with over a decade of experience in marketing, media buying, B2B Sales, and management. I am an inquisitive and diligent Multimedia Account Executive who piloted the Direct Response Program for the Wall Street Journal for 7 years. I have over 10 years of experience in Account Management where I was required to wear many hats including Demographic Research to Collection and Tracking of Accounts Receivable. I am motivated by the principle that people want to be understood and have their concerns and needs met with empathy and support. I have proven results when it comes to helping companies meet the needs of their customers and building relationships that value customers as respected and crucial to our long lasting success and not a commodity.
